To List Make or Not?

I’m a list maker, and I’m pretty sure I have already posted about this, but I’m too tired to go check. I’ve actually had a pretty productive day and been marking things off my list, in preparation, of course, to get another list started of more things I need to accomplish – we do have a three year old birthday party coming up next week! : )

Last week I had dinner with some sweet friends and we were talking about making lists and crossing things off and how great that felt and blah, blah, blah, when one of the gals said something to the effect of, “Maybe I should become a list maker. So, what do you put on your lists?” Love it! Girl, if you don’t even know what to put on a list, then you are most definitely not a list maker! : )

So, how about you? Are you a list maker or not?

Some Good Stuff

One of the big reasons I enjoy reading blogs is that I can learn so much from other people through their experiences and thoughts as God reveals Himself to them. There are some wise ladies out there, that I don’t know personally, but am learning from and am being challenged by. Just in the past two weeks I’ve been hit with some pretty cool parenting posts that I thought I would pass along. I hope you’ll take the time to read these, especially if you are a parent.

- I came across Cindy Beall’s blog recently and have loved reading her stuff. Her post on remembering what it’s like to be a child, Have you Forgotten?, was just what I needed to hear, especially in this tired phase when my patience is not so abundant.

- Star at Lost in Laundry wrote about Widening the Circle of influences for our children, and being intentional about it! This is good, good stuff.

- Cindy again, with another great post – my favorite line: “We reproduce what we are.” WOW! We can’t fake it with our kids, they will immitate us and who we are. I want to be a mom worthy of being immitated.

He’s gonna make a great husband

I walked into the kitchen last week to see an open fridge and an open silverware drawer …

Matthan called me into the bedroom yelling, “Ta Da!” as soon as I walked in.

He’d set up a picnic for us, so I would feel better (sweet boy). He chose his favorite kind of apple sauce for himself and the other for me, and even let me have his spider spoon … that’s a pretty big deal!

His Daddy has definitely set a great example for him.

Tree Hugger

All that means though, is that my little tree had a fabulous time running from house to house collecting candy and working up a nice little sweat (we had to go with shorts cause it was way too hot).

But, I love my little tree and my tree hugger even more!

The making of a halloween costume

Matthan decided what he wanted to be for Halloween weeks and weeks ago. It was a pretty unusual request so I thought for sure he would change his mind and go for something I could buy, like a race car driver or Buzz Lightyear. I have absolutely no idea where he came up with his costume idea but the kid has stuck to his guns and not wavered one bit. I’m proud of him! Although, for me, it meant I was going to have to get creative and MAKE the costume – yikes! Thankfully I have a very talented friend who was willing to help me out and the costume was made!

Come back tomorrow to see the final result. I sure do hope he doesn’t change his mind at the last minute! : )

The funny things he says, part 2

On the way to visit a friend, Matthan had a little accident so I just decided to make a quick stop at Wal-Mart to buy him some pants. I explained what we were doing to him and this was his response – “Wal-Mart? That is unacceptable Mommy!” I’m not sure when he became such a store snob.

Matthan was having a great day, obeying so well. My compliment to him was, “Matthan, you rock!” His response – “I am NOT a rock!” So, I said, “Okay, you’re awesome!” – “Yes, I AM awesome!” I’m thinking confidence will not be a problem with this child.

I wish I could remember what he was saying, but it was not something good and I gave him THE look and a firm “Matthan.” He responded with – “Sorry, Mommy, I was just being rude.” He obvioulsy didn’t get in any further trouble after that apology.

While in the car running errands with me – “There sure are a lot of stores in Florence! But, there is no Publix!” He really wanted to go to Publix so he could get a cookie.

A few Sundays ago after church Matthan looked at me inquisitively and asked, “Where is God?” To which I responded, “He’s in heaven.” Wrong answer! He quickly shook his head and said, “NO! He is in my heart!” : )

And, my favorite one of all . . .

After I said the blessing at lunch last week. Matthan put his hand on my back and said- “Can I pray for you Mommy? … Dear God, thank you for my Mommy” He is precious, absolutely precious!

All we could do was laugh … then take some pictures … sigh, big deep sigh … then clean it all up!

Except, I think we’ll be cleaning powder for the next year or so, that stuff is EVERYWHERE!

Baby, baby … some updates

Yay!

I’ve been getting lots of questions, so here are the answers to the most frequently asked.

- Due date is May 10th but I’m already thinking he/she will be arriving early. Matthan was three weeks early and the doctor said history tends to repeat itself. Or, he/she may end up being just like mommy and arriving late . . . we’ll just have to wait and see.

- This is the end of the 1st trimester so I am starting to feel a little better. Yes, I have been exhausted, queasy, suffering from morning, afternoon or night sickness (varied day by day) and, enjoying some pretty large, volcano like, pimples on my face. : ) It really could have been a lot worse though, so I am not complaining. I have felt good this week, so I seem to be nearing the end of all that junk.

- I had mentioned earlier that I would be taking a trip to Kenya in November. Well, that’s not going to happen after all. I’m bummed that I don’t get to go next month, but thrilled about the reason why. I know I’ll have the opportunity to go at a later date and it’s definitely something I want to do at some point in my life.

- We will definitely find out the sex of the baby (I’m too much of a planner not to). However, I’m not sure yet if we’ll share the name we choose or not. The reason why - I don’t want everyone’s opinion on a name and so many people feel compelled to share. So, we’ll probably keep that little bit of info a secret until he/she is born (unless I want your opinion).

- Matthan wants to name the baby Jesus if it’s a boy and Katelyn if it’s a girl! Ha, ha! That kid sure does make me laugh!

Let’s talk parties

Last Valentine’s Day my bestie and I planned and hosted a cookie exchange. It was so much fun and of course, incredibly yummy!. I can’t wait to host one again this year, but this time around with some Flo-Town gals! : ) I love planning parties and that was one of my favorite parties that we’ve done (along with this one).
